what is education for humanity ?

Education for Humanity is a unique program which empowers primary and secondary school students to help elevate less fortunate children living in impoverished communities. We at HHH, inspire children around the globe to follow their hopes and dreams regardless of their life circumstances. Through this process, we teach both our local and global students how they can become leaders for positive change. We strive to teach the importance of life and social skills by giving back and helping others.

Indian Road Crescent Junior Public School
2019-2020
Indian Grove Public School (IGPS) held many events during 2019 to support HHH and our Student Sponsorship Program in Haiti. The Me-to-We Club turned HHH into a fundraising frenzy to help support the children of Haiti. Serena Bufalino attended the school on three occasions during the year to run student empowerment programs. In this capacity, they also help transform the world and the lives of students who really need their assistance. HHH is amazed at how much heart, spirit, and passion our Canadian students have when they hear about the daily conditions of the students in Haiti.

Los Angeles Museum of Tolerance Youth Summit
April / 2019
In collaboration with the Los Angeles Museum of Tolerance, Help Heal Humanity's Serena Bufalino and Evelisa Genova hosted and facilitated a full day youth summit for the students, at the Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School. The summit explored the concept of Creative Activism, and how creativity can bring goodness and positive messages into the world. Serena Bufalino shared her own journey of creating Help Heal Humanity and how the power of children and students can make a difference. The group participated in a self- portraiture workshop facilitated by Evelisa. Students walked through a portraiture tutorial and used the tools to illustrate how they see themselves making a positive difference in the world around them. Our workshop ended with the statement: “We are all connected; we are all affected”, which emphasized how we are all interconnected, and the well-being of people around us matters. To make the concept more realistic, we shared the story of how students in Toronto created global impact by helping fellow students in Haiti.

Toronto District Secondary School
2018-2020
The Toronto District Secondary School (TDSS) has many specialized education classrooms scattered throughout the city. Each classroom is unique but all focus on helping students through difficult and challenging times. The TDSS has been an important supporter of the Haiti School Building Project since its creation in 2011. The TDSS students raised funds by hosting bake, pizza, and garage sales. This was a win-win situation for participating students and teachers as everyone learned real lessons in empathy, compassion and basic human values.

Toronto Catholic School Board
2018-2020
Across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), classrooms participated in a variety of fundraising efforts. From vows of silence, to planting trees and selling plants, these elementary school students stepped up to help the children of Haiti. Through in-class programming and the teaching of leadership skills, HHH provided the knowledge and resources which enabled youth to make a difference in the lives of others.

Throughout many years of teaching within the Toronto Catholic District School Board my students and the entire school community have lead and fundraised often for Help Heal Humanity. At St Raymond the school fundraised and led an hour of silence in solidarity for those students who don’t have a voice to advocate for themselves because of many issues, one of which is poverty and lack of access. As a Special Education teacher similar to Serena, my students are also some of the most at risk youth within the Toronto Board. Serena’s story of dedication gave my students the strength to do their part to make this world a better place.
Venessa Moreal— Special Education Specialist?
By helping with the fundraising we were able to help kids that were not able to go to school. Being part of this program helped me through a lot of things in life and I am very happy and thankful that I am able to help and be part of something that helped those less fortunate. It was also very therapeutic for me and my own healing journey.
Yolanda Forbes — TDSS student
The opportunity to design and deliver an arts and empowerment program at the Museum of Tolerance was very special. The students from Martin Luther King Jr School were brilliant, curious, and really took to the self love message that the workshop delivered. To be able to facilitate this workshop really allows the opportunity for students to connect to the importance of self love and to empathize with the stories of others. I believe this combination of compassion and creativity is key to a vibrant future for all of us.
Evelisa Genova — Educator and Co Facilitator
We did it...amazing for our 2-day bake sale...grand total $886.25. What an amazing job our We Club members did! The supportive and very generous families in our IRC community are incredible. Much love at you Serena...you are one incredible lady that we are just so fortunate to be connected with! Our efforts are all worthwhile when you see how happy these children are to help other children in need:) Hope to see you in Jan at IRC...the kids loved your infectious positive attitude to create change and a better world:)
