Help Heal Humanity - Volunteer position

  • Who we are:

    Help Heal Humanity (HHH) is an international (Canada and USA) non-profit organization with a mandate to provide education and nourishment to some of the most “at risk” youth and children on our planet today.  Specifically, we have focused our efforts in Canaan and Citi Soleil - Haiti, where over 4.5 million people go without electricity, running water, food, resources and absolutely no form of government support. HHH achieves its goals in part through the creation and implementation of a number of fundraising events including our annual Local Dinner Parties and Global Dining for Humanity Events, Art and Music for Humanity, Travel for Humanity, Yoga and Fitness for Humanity, as well as by partnering with other organizations to grow our awareness and purpose on the planet. Thus far, we have successfully built a school in Canaan Haiti that educates and empowers 121 primary students per day.  Today we are looking for our newest director who will play the primary role in helping us establish our Food for humanity charitable goals.
  • Position Overview:

    The HR Director is responsible for managing the HR department and overseeing operations and ensuring staff, and volunteers adhere to organizational policies and procedures. Duties include overseeing HR activities, recruiting, hiring and onboarding Executive level volunteers representing Help Heal Humanity, training and ensuring compliance with HR laws and regulations.

    The HRD will assist in developing a company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, and high performance while achieving our mission. Must be able to articulate the mission and vision of the HHH organization when speaking with potential volunteers, donors, and clients.
  • Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identifying, evaluating, and solving hiring challenges
  • Develop JDs, post, and pre-screen potential new staff
  • Recruiting top talent to executive positions
  • Participate in interviewing and facilitation of communication between HHH and potential candidates
  • Provide onboarding training to provide a critical transition for new staff
  • Lead and advise on new hires
  • Lead staff development opportunities and advise on the HHH committees
  • Provide direct access to problem solving for staff
  • Provide feedback to managers to improve individual and team performance
  • Mediating and suggesting solutions to employee disputes
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies and relevant laws
  • Skills & Competencies:

  • Critical Thinking: The HRD must be able to understand what a person needs when coming to them in crisis. Being able to find solutions for a myriad of issues will be necessary.
  • Attention to Detail: The HRD will review all the HHH staff information and will ask clarifying questions to ensure concise record keeping and solution driven guidance.
  • Performance Feedback: The HRD should be able to provide critical and effective feedback to both staff and executive team.
  • Communication Skills: The HRD needs to be a good listener and effective speaker. The HRD will need to be able to establish rapport and trust with the HHH staff in a short period of time.
  • Autonomy: The HRD will act independent of and without influence from the staff.
  • Confidence: The HRD must possess a level of confidence that allows he/she to influence and control situations based on what is best for HHH.
  • People to People: The HRD must work well one on one and in group settings, many times defining group dynamics.
  • Decision Making: The HRD must work closely with the executive team to make solid decisions that align with the environment of HHH.
  • Training: The HRD must understand that different ways people learn and be able to adapt training methods to be effective across the organization.
  • Qualification Requirements

    • Bachelors preferred or minimum of ten years of proven progressive HR experience in not-for-profit organizations.
    • At least 10 years’ experience as an HR specialist/manager/Director.
    • Experience in building training criteria.
    • Demonstrated ability to engage with staff effectively.
    • Non-profit experience/understanding.
    • Demonstrated experience in working alongside executive leadership.

    Time commitment:

    This volunteer position requires a time commitment of eight to twelve hours monthly. This is an average and that time will vary depending on the planned events.
